Sitpayeva Gulnara Tokbergenovna

Doctor of Biological Sciences (2010), Associate Professor (2024).

Graduated from Kustanai Pedagogical Institute named after the 50th Anniversary of the USSR, specialising as a teacher of biology with an additional specialisation in basics of agriculture (1989). Graduated from full-time postgraduate course at the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, speciality 03.00.05 - Botany (1998). She defended her Candidate's thesis on speciality 03.00.05 – Botany (1998). She defended her doctoral thesis on speciality 03.00.16 - Ecology, 03.00.05 – Botany (2010).

Work experience:

In 1989-1992 she worked as a biology teacher in secondary schools № 20 and № 23 in Kostanai.

In 1992-1996 she worked as a laboratory assistant of the Department of Botany, head of the laboratory of the Department of Botany, teacher of the Department of Botany in Kostanai Pedagogical Institute named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR.

Since 1997 she has been working in the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction. She has passed all stages of qualification: first she worked as an engineer of the 1st category, a researcher of the laboratory of plant resources, a head of the laboratory of dendrology, Scientific Secretary.

Since September 17, 2008 she was acting director of DSE “Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction” RSE “Centre for Biological Research” KS MES RK, that was further transformed into RSE "Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction” KS MES RK.

Since December, 7, 2010. - General Director of the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction’ KS MES RK.

Sitpayeva G.T. managed grant, innovation and contractual projects: ‘Introduction enrichment of the gene pool of botanical gardens of Kazakhstan, creation of technology of introduction into culture and plant propagation‘ (2008); “Preservation, replenishment and development of collection funds of the Main Botanical Garden” (2008-2010); “Development and creation of an exposition of Kazakhstan flora in the botanical garden Bagatelle (France), as a prototype of the introduction of plants of Kazakhstan in the green building of Europe” (2011-2013); “Ensuring the conservation and development of collection funds of the Main Botanical Garden” (2008-2010). ); “Ensuring the conservation and development of collection funds of plants, animals, microorganisms, viruses and unique genetic banks as a basis for fundamental research” (2012-2014); “Processing and cultivation of licorice root on the territory of Kyzylorda region” jointly with ‘BIS-Group’ LLP (2013-2014). A licorice root processing plant was opened using scientific developments of RSE ‘Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction’ with BIS-Group LLP (December, 2014); “Scientific support for the establishment of the State Botanical Garden in Astana city: development of prospective lists of collection funds of woody plants and mobilisation of reproductive material for their creation” (2018-2020).

She led scientific and technical programmes within the framework of programme-targeted financing: “Botanical diversity of wild relatives of cultivated plants of Kazakhstan as a source of enrichment and conservation of agrobiodiversity gene pool for the implementation of the food programme” (2013-2015); “Sustainable management of genetic resources of state botanical gardens of South-Eastern and Central Kazakhstan - specially protected natural areas of national importance - in the transition to a “green economy”(2015-2017); “Implementation of the State Programmes of the Republic of Kazakhstan” (2015-2017); “Sustainable management of genetic resources of state botanical gardens of South-Eastern and Central Kazakhstan - specially protected natural areas of national importance in the transition to a green economy” (2015-2017).

She was a participant and leader of International scientific grants: National Geographic Society of Washington city by on the project ‘Modern and fossil flora of Turgai’ (1995-1997); project: ‘Study of plants in Kazakhstan and collection of wheat and barley genetic resources to improve crop selection’ of the International Centre for Wheat and Maize Improvement (CIMMYT-Mexico, 2002-2003); project ‘Study of flora of steppes of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia’ together with colleagues from Tsukuba University (Japan, 2004-2005); project: ISTC K-719R ‘Identification and identification of natural products of flora of Kazakhstan for agrobiological purposes’ (2002-2003); project: ‘Study of flora of steppes of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia’ with colleagues from Tsukuba University (Japan, 2004-2005); project: ISTC K-719R ‘Identification and identification of natural products of flora of Kazakhstan for agrobiological purposes’ (2002-2003). International Scientific Seminar of the US Botanical Gardens (Chicago Botanical Garden, Denver Botanical Garden, Longwood Botanical Garden) (October, 2018); the opening ceremony of the Seed Bank at the National Institute of Biological Resources in Korea (May, 2018).

In 02.07.2018, with the participation of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev opened a branch “Astana Botanical Garden” at the RSE “IBP” of the KS MES RK and created the International Scientific Council for the Development of a New Botanical Garden, whose Chairman was chosen Sitpayeva G.T. There was developed and approved the “Roadmap for the Development of the Botanical Garden of Astana”. Together with the “Bolat Utemuratov Foundation”, a project was developed and reconstruction of the Main Botanical Garden of the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction FWC MEGNR RK was carried out.

Publications: 6 monographs and over 190 articles and theses, of which in foreign countries (USA, France, Japan, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary, Greece, Germany, China, Korea, Turkey).
